Objective: The aim of the work is to evaluate the subcision- suction method in treating depressed scars (post acne scars, chicken pox scars and post traumatic scars)
Patients & Method: The present study included 20 patients with depressed scars (post acne scars, chicken pox scars and post traumatic scars) and of different age groups. They were selected from those patients attending the Dermatology clinic of Benha University Hospital. Subcisions were performed under constant conditions, in the same facilities and by the same surgeon, using identical tech¬nique. Suctioning was performed with a vacuum system (Hejama system) on the subcised scars. The cup size was chosen according to treated surface area. The patients were classified according to regularity of suction sessions to group A1, group A2 and group B.
Results: All groups showed improvement in scars (groupA1 > group A2 > group B) after the treatment among Investigators’ (77.25±18.46) and Patients’ view (70.0±21.46). There was highly significant correlation between suction sessions regularity on subcised scars and mean improvement of scars regarding investigator and patient view (P value =0.001). The improvement percent among patients (>18) years is higher than that among patients (≤18) regarding investigator and patient view. There was statistically significant correlation between age and mean improvement of scars.
Conclusion: Subcision-suction method is well tolerated with local infiltration of anesthetic, and it deserves to be a first line treatment for many moderate atrophic scars due to absence of any epidermal injury except for minute needle insertion points, long lasting scar correction and reasonably persistent correction of wrinkles |
