Abstract:

Discourse Historical Approach is a demystification of the hegemony of specific discourses by deciphering the ideologies that establish and perpetuate dominance and manipulation in them, that is, disclosing the manifest or latent manipulative character of discursive practices of the text. For texts are often sites of social struggle for they manifest traces of differing ideological fights for dominance, hegemony and manipulation. Thus, we concentrate on the ways in which linguistic forms are used in various expressions to exercise manipulations of power. However, power is discursively exerted not only by grammatical forms, but also by a person’s control of the social occasion by means of the genre of a text (Reisigl and Wodak, 2009:88-89).
