Abstract:

Background: The mothers play a vital role in ensuring a successful recovery for children following ptosis surgery. Mothers' adhering to postoperative instructions is essential for promoting healing, preventing complications, and achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. Aim of the study was to assess mothers' knowledge and practices regarding care of their children undergoing ptosis surgery. Setting: This study was carried out in Ophthalmology Clinics of Benha University Hospital which is affiliated to Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Design: A descriptive quantitative study design was utilized. Subjects: A simple random sample of (140) mothers and their children from 3 to less than 18 years old undergoing ptosis surgery. Tools of data collection: Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire used to assess; characteristics of the studied mothers and their children, medical data of children and mothers’ knowledge regarding ptosis and ptosis surgery in children. Tool II: Interviewing questionnaire sheet regarding mothers’ reported practices regarding care of their children undergoing ptosis surgery Results: More than one fifth of the studied mothers had adequate total knowledge level regarding ptosis and ptosis surgery. Regarding studied mothers’ total reported practice level, less than third of the studied mothers had satisfactory total reported practice regarding care of their children undergoing ptosis surgery. Conclusion: There was highly statistically significant positive correlation between total knowledge level and total reported practice level.
