Abstract
The need for curing is one of the fundamental needs of man the same as his needs for food and shelter. Hospitals are one type of health building which require different engineering and medical specialization owning to the different functions which take place in hospitals. These kind of buildings are influenced by the advanced technology of medical equipments a matter that had impact upon the treatment and the diagnosis and at the same time is reflected upon the design of spaces and the architecture of such kind of buildings. It was found however that present hospitals can’t be adapted to such technological progress due to the lack of awareness of such rapid development of those who contributed to the design of hospitals of the past. The aim of this paper is to study the flexibility of design of new hospitals taking in considerations the rapid changes in the design of medical equipments. In order to fulfill such requirement, the search contained analytical study to understand constrains that approve the possibilities of such flexibility in the design of hospitals. Some of these obstacles are the financial capabilities, technological development, circulation, supplies and finally the problem of contamination. The search ended by some findings to facilitate the design of a flexible hospital that can accept change and expansion either vertically or horizontally with the aid of flat slab type of construction through a flexible architectural and structural module.

تعد الحاجة إلى الرعاية الصحية من متطلبات الإنسان الأساسية مثل حاجته إلى الطعام والمأوى، والمستشفيات هى أحد المبانى الصحية التى تقدم هذه الخدمة ولذا فهى تحتاج فى تصميمها إلى العديد من التخصصات الهندسية نظرا لتعدد الوظائف والاستخدامات التى تتم بها، هذا بالإضافة إلى أن هذه النوعية من المبانى تتأثر إلى حد كبير بالتقدم التكنولوجى للأجهزة والمعدات الطبية.، وهذا التقدم استدعى تغيير أسلوب وسائل العلاج والتشخيص وانعكس ذلك على المساحات والفراغات المعمارية للمستشفى. إلا أن اغلب المستشفيات القائمة لا تقبل إجراء التعديلات الأزمة لمواكبة تقدم الأجهزة والمعدات الطبية لان تصميمها لم يأخذ فى الحسبان عند إعداده التنبؤ بهذه التغيرات{تصميم غير مرن}. ويأتى الهدف من هذه الورقة البحثية إلى دراسة دور المرونة فى تصميم المستشفيات وكيف أنها تقدم الحلول المثلى والمناسبة للتغيير والنمو الناتج عن التطور المستمر فى مجال تكنولوجيا الأجهزة الطبية.وكذا الوصول إلى وضع خطوط عريضة تميز التصميم المرن.،ولتحقيق الهدف اعتمد البحث على منهج تحليلى للوقوف على التحديات التى تواجه تصميم المستشفيات والمتمثلة فى عنصر التمويل والتقدم التكنولوجى ومسارات الحركة والإمدادات وأخيرا انتقال العدوى، وانتهى البحث بعدة توصيات تتمثل فى مجموعة من الخطوط العريضة التى تميز التصميم المرن للمستشفى وهى مرحلية التنفيذ وإمكانية التغير والنمو الأفقى أو الراسى مع استخدام نظام إنشائى مناسب (البلاطات المستوية) من خلال وحدة تصميمية معمارية وإنشائية.
