Abstract:

This study was carried out at laboratory, greenhouse and farm of faculty of Agriculture, Moshtohor, Zagazig University during 1997 – 1998 seasons to isolate and identify some pepper-associated potyviruses which caused serious reduction in the pepper crops through last seasons. Attempt to reduce the losses in the pepper crop due to viral diseases using natural antivirus substances. Distinctive viral symptoms were observed on pepper plants (cv. Balady) fields in the Qalubia, Menofyia and Sharqyia governorates. Virological protocols were applied to identify the virus was isolated from these fields. A new potyvirus (PSMV) caused severe mosaic on top leaves; necrotic spots on the stems, fruits and leaves; followed by premature foliar abscission; infected plants showed severe stunted. The isolated virus was identified according to symptomatology, host rang, physical properties, mechanical, insect and seed transmission, electron microscopy and serological reaction. Finally, aqueous extracts of 12 plant species belonged 10 families and containing different active integrated compounds. Some extracts showed inhibitory effect against the isolated virus.
