The study aimed at developing the preparatory stage students' reading comprehension by using mental imagery strategy. In order to achieve this objective, a list of reading comprehension skills required by the preparatory stage students was developed A test of 45 items was constructed. A teacher's manual was designed in the light of the mental imagery strategy. The test was administered to a sample of male and female second grade students who were assigned into two groups: control group (n=41) and experimental group (n=42). The study reached some results as follows:
• The effectiveness of the mental imagery strategy in developing the second grade students' reading comprehension skills.
• The effectiveness of the mental imagery strategy in developing each reading skills among the second grade students.
Based on the study results, some recommendations were suggested:
1) The mental imagery strategy should be used in developing some other language skills such as dictation, written expression and listening.
2) Courses for training Arabic language teachers to use this strategy in language classes should be held.
3) The development of Arabic language curricula at the different educational stages should focus on preparing manuals for using some strategies that develop all thinking types such as critical thinking and reflective thinking.
