أدى التطور التكنولوجي والثورات التكنولوجية المتتابعة ، التي غزت العالم في الآونة الأخيرة، إلى ظهور مجموعة كبيرة من الأجهزة والمنتجات تعرف بالمنتجات ذات التكنولوجيا المرتفعة ، والتي يعمل المصممين على تطويرها بإستمرار حتّى تلبي احتياجات المستخدمين الكثيرة والمختلفة بكل سهولة ويسر وتؤدي المهام المصممة من أجلها بأقل وقت وجهد.
وكان لهذا التطور التكنولوجي أثر كبير فى تغيير سمات المنتج وخاصة فى مرحلة الإستخدام ، وعلى الرغم أنه كان لإستخدام هذه التكنولوجيات الحديثة في المنتجات مساهمة فعالة فى عملية إضافة قيمة جديدة لها ، وساهم فى أن يجعل المنتج الذى يعتمد فى تشغيله على تلك التكنولوجيا يحتوى فى طياته على مجموعة كبيرة من المنتجات التى يمكن الإستغناء عنها بالحصول على هذا المنتج الواحد فقط ، وذلك أدى لضعف أو إنعدم الإهتمام بطبيعة المستخدم ومدى تقبله وقدرته على التفاعل مع تلك الإضافات التى حصل عليها وتحمل تكلفتها ، كما وجد المستخدمون لتلك المنتجات صعوبة في تشغيلها والتعامل معها وفهم وظائفها بسهولة نتيجة تعقد نظامها وأدى ذلك لضعف إستعمالية تلك المنتجات ، وظهور فجوة آخذة فى الإتساع بين تلك المنتجات والمستخدمون لها تستلزم الإدراك السريع لها والعمل على تقليصها وذلك من خلال وضع إستراتيجية مقترحة تعمل على تقليص الفجوة بين تلك المنتجات ذات التكنولوجيا المرتفعة والمستخدم ، وتشمل محاور مختلفة تضمنت إدراج المستخدم فى عمليات ومراحل تصميم وتطوير تلك المنتجات ، من خلال تطبيق إجراءات وعمليات تصميم خبرة المستخدم والاستعمالية والتصميم محور المستخدم ، و إعداد مواصفات قياسية للمستخدم ، وتطوير أنماط المستخدم .
