Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. stroma plays a key role in its development and pathogenesis. Stromal markers are now emerging as novel markers in assessing the prognosis of invasive breast cancer and have not been studied extensively till date. The aim of the present study is to study the expression of CD10 and syndecan-1in breast carcinoma, find their relationship with other prognostic markers and study the role stroma plays in breast cancer pathogenesis .The present study was conducted on 76 female cases mammary in situ and invasive duct carcinoma. All studied cases of invasive duct carcinoma were graded as grade I, II and III according to Elston/Nottingham modification of Bloom-Richardson system. syndecan-1 overexpression correlates with poor prognosis and aggressive phenotype. There was a highly significant correlation between CD10 immunostaining intensity and tumor grade, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and hormone profile. |
