Abstract:

The prevalence of diabetes is increasing globally, particularly in the developing countries. The diabetic foot is one of the most devastating chronic complications of diabetes. The study was conducted at outpatient's clinic of Benha Hospital in Kaluobia governorate. The study aimed to prevent the diabetic foot problems among diabetic patients through: assess, design, implement a health education program according to patient's needs to manage the five aspects of diabetic good control (nutrition, exercise, medication, monitoring and education), and to evaluate the outcome of the program. The sample was 80 patients were chosen randomly, 3 to 4 patients daily for one month according to criteria. Two tools were used for data collection: an interviewing questionnaire to assess patient’s knowledge and observation check list to assess their practice for urine – glucose test and giving insulin injection. It was shown that, statistically, there were highly significant improvement in the five aspects of diabetic control and prevention of foot problems after applying the program. This study suggests that, all diabetic patients need health education about the safe five aspects of diabetic control, screening, mass media and continuing nursing education, which should play significant roles to prevent complications and foot problems.
