Abstract:

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial intervention (Rehabilitation program) for withdrawal behavior among schizophrenic patients. It is conducted in Benha Mental Health Hospital. A convenience sample of 50 schizophrenic patients and suffer from withdrawal behavior. The tools include: (1) assessment sheet based on an open-ended interview questionnaire. It includes questions covering areas of psychological functioning. These areas were related to schizophrenic patient's perception, language, thinking, emotion, attention and concentration, movement, memory and orientation about people, time and place. In addition daily living activities and social interaction. (2) An observation sheet including the observable indicators of withdrawal behavior. These indicators assess the physical, verbal, affective and disruption in reality aspects of behavior. Accordingly a rehabilitative program was developed for each patient, based on the identified patients needs. (3) Scale of assessments of negative symptoms (SANS). The study showed that withdrawn schizophrenic patients can show marked decreased improvement withdrawal behavior if provided with proper stimulation care, and this was significant difference between the findings in the pre and post rehabilitative program. The study recommended that developing psychosocial methods to observe patients and their behavior related to schizophrenia, helping the patient to adapt and participate in ward activities, encouraging patient to express their feelings and experiences and hoping that all other psychiatric hospital support and foster this rehabilitative program for schizophrenic patients.
