Abstract:

This research investigates the effectiveness of using the BOSU ball in developing balance and improving motor performance in gymnastics, with a focus on enhancing sports training for young gymnasts. The study aims to evaluate the impact of balance exercises using the BOSU ball on both static and dynamic balance, as well as to measure the improvement in the back handspring performance after applying these exercises. Additionally, it seeks to explore the relationship between improved balance and the performance of the back handspring, which could contribute to enhancing the overall quality of gymnastic skills. The researcher adopted an experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design applied to a single experimental group. The sample included 10 young gymnasts under the age of 12 from the Sudanese Union Club. A structured training program was implemented over a period of six weeks, with three training sessions per week. The program focused on improving both static and dynamic balance and enhancing the back handspring skill through exercises using the BOSU ball. The researcher ensured a gradual increase in the training load over the six weeks to facilitate progressive improvement. The findings revealed statistically significant differences between pre- and post-test results for the experimental group in both static and dynamic balance. The improvement rates ranged from 8.8% in the Flamingo test to 34.1% in the left deviation test, indicating that the program was effective in enhancing balance. Furthermore, the study showed a 9.16% improvement in the back handspring performance after applying the BOSU ball exercises. These results suggest that BOSU ball exercises are effective in improving both static and dynamic balance, leading to better performance in complex gymnastic skills like the back handspring. The improvement in performance is largely due to the focus on developing specific physical abilities, particularly those related to motor control and balance. Previous studies referenced in the research support the notion that functional training with tools such as the BOSU ball enhances core muscle strength and control, which are essential for advanced gymnastics performance. In conclusion, the research highlights the importance of integrating BOSU ball exercises into gymnastics training programs for young athletes. The study confirms that improving balance, both static and dynamic, directly contributes to skill enhancement in gymnastics, offering valuable insights for coaches seeking to improve performance through innovative training methods.
