Abstract: |
The severity of a disease influences the consumption of costly healthcare resources including the need for intensive care admission and suitability for discharge. Therefore, there is a potential need for rapidly available biomarkers to predict the disease severity and finally outcome [1]. Arginine vasopressin (AVP) produced by hypothalamic neurons is stored andreleasedfrom the posterior pituitary gland following different stimuli such as hypotension, hypoxia, hyperosmolarity, acidosis, and infections, and it is claimed to be a sensitive marker in these situations [2]. |
