Abstract
This study was carried out on fifteen patients with end stage renal failure under mainte¬nance haemodialysis . Every patient was subjected to haemodialysis, ultrafiltration and hae¬modialysis with oxygen therapy in the first 60 minutes with spacing of 48 hours between each session . Significant leucopenia was noticed to occur 15 minutes after the start of hae¬modialysis and ultrafiltration and was corrected after, the first hour. Leucocytosis occurred at the end of sessions. Significant hypernatraemia, hypercalcaemia and hypokalaemia occurred during and after haemodialysis while, no changes took place in ultrafiltration . Predialysis metabolic acidosis was corrected after45minutes in haemodialysis till the end of the session, on the other hand no correction occurred in ultrafiltration . Significant hypoxia was recorded in most patients under haemodialysis and was not observed during ultrafiltration. Nasal oxy-gen administration in the first hour of haemodialysis prevent the occurrence of hypoxia throughout the dialysis. Therefore, hypoxia should be well investigated particularly in pa¬tients with chest or heart diseases and nasal oxygen administration in the first hour of hae-modialysis or starting ultrafiltration is recommended to prevent such hypoxia .
