Abstract:

The study aims to assess the relation between oxidative stress, antioxidant activity and post parturient hemoglobinuria on 70 hemoglobinuria and 30 apparently healthy buffaloes. Blood and serum samples were collected and tested for various parameters of oxidative stress and antioxidant enzymes. Significant increase in erythrocytic MDA (malondialdehyde) whereas significant decrease in serum inorganic phosphorus, copper (Cu), selenium (Se), erythrocytic SOD (superoxide dismutase), GPX (glutathione peroxidase) and G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase). According to these results, there was increase in oxidative stress indicator while antioxidant enzymes activities dramatically decreased in post parturient hemoglobinuria (PPH) affected buffaloes. It was concluded that there is relation between oxidative stress, antioxidant activity and PPH in buffaloes
