Background and Aim: Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common public health problem that affects millions of men throughout the world. It is also known that sexual health is important and influences the overall health and quality of life. In this study we aimed to evaluate the correlation between Quality of Life (QoL) and male sexual function in Hurghada.
Study Design: A cross sectional study.
Patients and Methods: Subjects were recruited from hotel clinic and private hospital at Hurghada in the period from January to June 2015. 243 males willed to participate in the study aged between 18 and 65 years who have active sexual relationships and not complaining from severe systemic disorders. English, German and Arabic forms of the IIEF-5 and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires were used to clarify the erectile function and quality of life in the sample.
Results: Subjects were divided into 2 groups: Group I (Egyptians); 177 from Hurghada residents and staff working in the hotel and Group II: Foreigners; 66 English and German speaking European guests in the hotel. The mean age of Group I was 38.6±2.8 years while in Group II was 45.5±2.9 years. Group II had a significant higher QoL and higher mean ± SD of IIEF than Group I. It was found that there is a significant positive correlation between QoL and EF and it was found that the prevalence of ED increase as the age increase. It was found that the prevalence rate of ED is higher in Group I than Group II in both age subgroups (older and younger than 40). It was found that the level of education correlate positively with EF.
Conclusion: The results of the current study showed a significant positive correlation between QoL and erectile function.
