Abstract:

This work Includes two studies : Part 1 : Retrospective analysis of the finding in 233 women with postmenopausal bleeding (PMB; the incidence of endometrial carcinoma and hyperplasia was 54% and 18.5% respectively. Other findings were presented in the study. Part II : The results of this prospective study indicated that the cytologic examination of the endometrium using the Mimark cell sampler is simple, sensitive and accurate method, it is readily applicable to cases suffering from PMB. It adequately distinguished malignant from hyperplastic and normal endometrium. INTRODUCTION The term postmenopausal bleed-ing (PMB) implies bleeding from the female genital tract one or more years after cessation of menstruation. Post-menopausal bleeding is an alarming sign associated with uterine malignan-cy In recent publications the incidence of endomtrial carcinoma is 1.5% to 13.5% in patients with PMB(l,2). The awareness of the serious implications of PMB among patients and physians resulted in an earlier detection of malignancy. Diagnostic curettage has for many years been the method of choice to diagnose endometrial cancer, howev-er, this method needs hospitalization, anaesthesia and expensive. There is a need for simple diagnostic test to de-tect early endometrial carcinoma and precursor lesion in high risk sympto-matic and asymptomatic patients. An
