Abstract:

The current research aims at identifying the relation between biomechanical indicators of the start and the duration of 50m freestyle, identifying the contribution percentages of some biomechanical indicators of start and 50m freestyle race, in addition to formulating a predicative formula as a guiding base for improving the 50m freestyle duration. The researcher used the descriptive approach (biomechanical analysis with fast video). Subjects were (3) junior swimmers (under 15 years) from 10th of Ramadan Sports Club (registered at the Egyptian Federation of Swimming for 2009-2010 season). Each swimmer performed (3) trials for 50m freestyle and the number of analyzed trial were (9). Most Important Results: Beginning of Flight: Duration of 50m freestyle can be predicted from the quantitative analysis of horizontal and vertical speeds and displacements of specific anatomical points of knee horizontal speed. The mean value of knee horizontal speed was 1.52m/sec while the means of thigh vertical speed, thigh vertical displacement, knee vertical displacement and ankle vertical displacement at the beginning of flight were (-0.98m/sec, 0.84m, 0.65m) respectively. Max-height: Duration of 50m freestyle can be predicted from the quantitative analysis of horizontal and vertical speeds and displacements of specific anatomical points of the vertical displacement of thigh as the mean value was 0.80m. mean values of knee vertical displacement, thigh vertical speed, knee vertical speed and hand vertical displacement were (0.71m, -.123m/sec, 0.62m/sec, 0.61m/sec) respectively. Water entry: Duration of 50m freestyle can be predicted from the quantitative analysis of horizontal and vertical speeds and displacements of specific anatomical points of the vertical displacement of the hand as the mean value was -0.27m. Mean values of wrest horizontal speed, hand horizontal displacement, thigh vertical displacement and thigh horizontal displacement were (4.722m/sec, 4.094m, 0.429m, 2.985m) respectively.
