Abstract: |
AIM: to assess the effects of both rilmenidine and captopril on fasting blood glucose (FBG) level, urine albumin. and kidney histopattrotogy in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy rats. METHOD: 24 spraruge Dawley male rats weighing berween 150-250g were administered single dose STZ (l00mg/kg) intraperionially and examined after 4 weeks for FBG, urine albumin and.kidney histopathology. the rats were divided into 4 groups: normal contror, diabetic nephropathy, rilmenldine-treated and captopril-treated groups. Rats received rilmenidine (lmg/kg/day) intraperitonially for 4 weeks and captopril (100mg/kg/day) orally for 4 weeks. RESULTS: rimenlidine significantly decreased FBG and significantly reduced urine albuimin. captopril significantly (p |
