Abstract:

Single-phase induction motors are subjected to pulsating torques due to the presence of the forward and backward magnetic fields. This problem becomes more acute when they are supplied with static power converters, which inject extra harmonic currents . The objective of this paper is to propose a harmonic cancellation technique to eliminate the flow of lower order harmonics into the single-phase induction motor. In this regard, the paper presents a comprehensive analysis to the performance of the single-phase induction motor when it is fed with a voltage-source inverter. Dynamic models and analysis of the motor behavior during transient and steady state phases are presented. In addition, harmonic spectrum analysis of the motor performance has been conducted. The results confirm that the proposed technique achieves a motor performance comparable to that of the sinusoidal supply.
