Abstract:

The use of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) as a thrombolytic agent inischemic stroke necessitates vigilant nursing care, ensuring swift interventions to control potential risks and complications and promote favorable patient outcomes. Aim: was toinvestigate the effect of educational program regarding care of stroke patients whoadministrated (tPA) on nurses' performance and health outcomes. Research design: Thestudy employs a quasi-experimental (pre–post) design. It was conducted in the strokecare unit of Benha University Hospital, Qualubia, Egypt. The study includedaconvenience sample of 50 nurses and a purposive sample of 80 ischemic stroke patientseligible for tPA therapy, who were assigned equally to a study and a control group. Datawere collected using three instruments: (I) a structured interview questionnairefor nurses, (II) Nurses’ observational checklist to evaluate nursing practices, and(III) apatient health outcomes assessment record. Results: Nurses’ overall knowledgeandpractice levels increased markedly post educational program. Immediatelypostintervention, 88% of nurses demonstrated satisfactory knowledge compared withonly20% before the program. Likewise, 84% achieved adequate practice levels after thetraining, up from 34% pre-program, with statistically significant differences. In addition, patients in the study group showed significant improvement in health outcomes, reflected in reduced clinical risks and lower stroke severity scores during the tPAadministration period. Conclusion: The educational program produced a statisticallysignificant improvement in nurses’ knowledge and clinical performance. In addition, ischemic stroke patients who received care from the trained nurses showed reductions inboth clinical risk scores and stroke severity levels.
