Abstract:

High blood pressure is the primary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and if uncontrolled can lead to large number of complications with consequent death . So hypertensive patient should be aware of various aspects of disease and self-care. Nursing interventions focus on teaching the patient about the disease , its associated risk factors and importance of adherence to the medical regimen . Therefore the present study was undertaken with the aim to assess the learning needs of hypertensive patients at Benha University Hospital . To fulfill the aim of the study the following research question was formulated : what are the learning needs of hypertensive patients at Benha University Hospital?. A descriptive exploratory design study was utilized to fulfill the aim of the study . A convenience sample of 150 adult male and female patients with different level of education was selected for this study . Two tools were utilized to collect the data pertinent to the study a)-background data sheet and b)-modified Arabic version of hypertension knowledge level scale. Tools of the study were constructed , tested and piloted by the investigator to examine the validity and reliability , clarity and feasibility of the tools . The study results revealed that the majority of the studied subjects need high to moderate learning needs (64.7%) related to knowledge of hypertension and its management . So the study recommended conduction of educational programs to provide the hypertensive patients with enough knowledge related to hypertension and its management.
