The continuous development in the power electronics
technology provides a great impetus for the application of
variable frequency drive (VFD). However, most of the papers in
this area are concerned with speed control and a little attention is concerned with the starting period. A proposed control strategy for VFD is developed in this paper to enhance the performance of induction motors during the starting period. The main objective of the proposed control strategy is to provide high starting torque while the starting current is maintained within acceptable limits. After that, the objective is to target the steady-state operating point following the nominal torque-speed characteristic of the motor. Simple control approach is developed in the paper which can be implemented with the proposed control scheme to achieve the required objectives. |
