Abstract:

It is proposed to employ doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) in stand-alone wind system with battery storage. The proposed system is of low cost compared with the traditional system. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) converter is controlled to ensure maximum power extraction through the DFIG operation, provided that the battery bank is not overcharged, and to provide the reactive power required by the DFIG from the battery bank. Simulation results are provided in the paper for various operating conditions to demonstrate the capability of the system.
