Abstract:

Int Conf AIDS. 1989 Jun 4-9;5:1058 (abstract no. Th.H.P.28). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA5/00556489 Wassif SM; Mobarak AB; Rashed AS; Wassif OM; Zagazig University, Egypt Abstract: AIDS, is a multifaceted problem with social, economic, political and medical implications. The Ministry of Health in Egypt discovered 36 cases of the syndrome (20 foreigners and 16 Egyptians) by the year 1988. However, this may be only the tip of the iceberg. National widespread screening of the syndrome started and all the discovered Egyptian cases were imported from abroad and they caught the infection during operation or blood transfusion. Distribution and determinants of the syndrome in Egypt were presented and interpreted. The suggested National Programme for Community Health action was discussed.
