Abstract:

In this work the application of an intelligent expert system in the field of education is presented based on the concept of segregating the inference engine from the knowledge base in the form of a shell, that can be used independently in conjunction with any other known knowledge base in educational field. This system is characterized by a multi-mode operational features namely, the system learning mode in which the field expert updates the system knowledge base, system evaluation for user's level, deciding for the best teaching methodology and accordingly select the appropriate topics to be taught. The system is also equipped with the added facility of evaluating the overall grasping potential acquired by the user at the end of each session. An optional added advantage of using this shell resides in predicting the next learning topic appropriate to this particular user. The system has been tested on a knowledge base related with the principles of computer interfaces, and a fast intelligent reliable solution and answers were obtained, maintaining simplicity and authenticity.
