Two field experiments were conducted at the experimental farm station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Benha University, during two growing successive winter seasons of 2009 and 2010 to study the effect of some treatments of assimilates transport – inducing materials, antioxidants, energy source , and setting - inducing materials i.e potassium citrate at 500 and 1000 ppm, salicylic acid at 200 and 400 ppm, putrescine at 200 and 400 ppm, humic acid at 500 and 1000 ppm, phosphoric acid at 500 and 1000 ppm and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) at 20 and NAA at 20 ppm as well as the combinations with all treatments on growth, flower abscissions, chemical characteristics such as enzyme activity and seed yield and yield components of faba bean Faba vulgaris cv balday plants. In addition, water was used as control.Resulted showed that all applied treatments increased all growth characteristics (i.e. plant height, leaf number, branches, fresh and dry weight of leaves and stem at 70 days of plant age during 2009 and 2010 seasons. In addition at 70 days of plant age during 2010 seasons all applied treatments increased chemical composition in leaves photosynthetic pigments, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn and Mn, total carbohydrates and crude protein and total free amino acid but total phenol and enzymes activity decreased with different applied treatments compared with the control in 2010 season. anatomical studies showed that increased of stem measurements stem diameter, cuticle layer thickness, epidermal thickness, Thickness of collenchyma layers, Number of Collenchyma layers, mean thickness of Collenchyma layer, Thickness of parenchyma layers, Number of parenchyma layers, Mean thickness of parenchyma layer, Cambial region thickness, phlome thickness, Xylem thickness, No. of xylem rows/Vascular cylinder, No. of xylem vessels / row, Parenchymatous pith thickness, No.of parenchymatous pith layers and thickness of Parenchymatous pith and leaf anatomy were increased with different applied treatments. Among these anatomical features were the most important ones, i.e., thickness of midrib, length & width of vascular bundle, phloem & xylem tissues and number of xylem vessels in vascular bundle as well as the leaf blade thickness. Seed yield and yield components were increased with all applied treatments and NAA at 20 ppm gave the highest value during 2009 and 2010 seasons. Finally in seeds at harvest increased chemical composition total carbohydrates, crude protein and mineral contents N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn and Mn. NAA at 20 ppm gave highest value in second seasons. |
