BACKGROUND: Infertility is a multidimensional problem with social, economic and cultural implications. Life style patterns as diet, exercise, psychological stress, caffeine and alcohol consumption and environmental pollutants play crucial role in females’ ability to conceive and maintain healthy pregnancy.
PURPOSE: to assess females’ life style patterns in relation to female infertility.
DESIGN: the study was descriptive study. Tool of data collection was a Structure interviewing questionnaire sheet.
SETTINGS: The study was conducted at Assisted Reproductive Technology Unite of Benha University hospital and other private centers in Benha city.
SUBJECTS: included 100 infertile females with primary and secondary infertility.
RESULTS: Results of this study indicated that the mean age ±SD of women were (27.20 ± .5.61 years).More than two third of the women were house wife and were live at rural area beside that had intermediate education. The present study revealed that more than three quarters of the infertile females had poor life style patterns that affect infertility, most of infertile females had poor knowledge regarding life style patterns and infertility. Also there’s statistical significant difference between females’ knowledge and their life style patterns.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDEDATIONS: Modification of lifestyle patterns has the potential to improve reproductive performance and there is opportunity for primary prevention to protect reproductive health. Advice on modifiable life style patterns should be given to infertile females presenting with infertility to help them make positive changes that may improve their chances of pregnancy, premarital counseling should be provided emphasizing on the importance of good sexual relations and its effect on infertility, designing and implementing counseling program by the nurse for infertile females to improve their psychological status and help them cope successfully, Provide infertile couples with an educating program (refreshment course) such as dietary program , further Studying on the impact of infertility on coping strategies among infertile females.
