Abstract:

Recovery from surgery is a critical time for client. The nursing care of the patients after operation is a second importance to the operation it self. The aim of the study is to compare nursing performance about post operative care between nurses in University Hospital and at Benha Teaching Hospital. The present study suggested that performance for nurses who are working in general surgical wards at university hospital more efficient than nurses who are working in general surgical wards at teaching hospital at Benha. The sample contain 50 staff diploma nurses, 29 of them are working at Benha University Hospital, and 21 staff nurses were working at Benha Teaching Hospital. The tool of data collection were structured demographic sheet, questionnaire sheet and observational cheek list. The result showed that no difference between the both hospitals in knowledge and practice. The study concluded that all nurses needed to improve their knowledge and practice about care of surgical patients. The study recommended that the well planned orientation and insevice training programs on the performance standards, proper supervision, and develop protocol of postoperative nursing care.
