Two field experiments were carried out in the Research
and Experimental Station of th. Agriculture at Nobtohor,
aga:ig Unviersity in 1985/86 and 1986/87 growing seasons
These investigations were conducted to study the effect
of soaking faba bean seeds in GA3 and IAA solutions at
three concentratiogn (50, 75 and 100 ppm) on the growth,
yield and yield components of two cultivars (Giza 2 and
Giza 3).
Giza 2 cultivar Significantly surpassed Giza 3 cultivar
in plant height, fresh and dry weight of leaves/punt,
number of pods/plant, fresh and dry weight of pods per
plant at 120 days from sowign. Also Giza 2 cultivar gave
the highest number of pods/plant, weight of seeds per plant,
100-seed weight and seed yi.ld/feddan at harvesting. On
the other hand, differences between the two cultivars were
not significant i the number of branches per plant, fresh
. and dry weight of stems/plant at 120 days from sowing and
weight of pods/plant at harveting.
Plant height, number of branches/plant. 100-seed weight
were not significantly affected by any of the applied growth
regulator treatments. The application of IAA solution at
50 ppm significantly increased fresh and dry weight of
leaves/plant, fresh and dry weight of stems/plant, fresh
and dry weight of pods/plant. Whereas GA3 solution at 100
ppm produced the highest values of number of pods/plant.
weight of pods/plant, weight of seeds/plant and seed yield/
f eddan.
The interaction effect of the growth regulator treat
ents and cultivar gave a significant effect on fresh and
dry weight of leaves/plant, number of branches/plant, fresh
and dry weight of stems/plant at 120 days from sowing,
also number of pods/plant, weight of pods and seeds/plant
and seed yield/f eddan. ?he interaction between Giza 2 cv.
and soaking seeds of GA3 solution in 100 ppm concentration
gave the highest seed yield/feddan.
