PURPOSE: To study the effect of Guidelines about ethics in obstetrics and gynecology department on nurses' knowledge, attitude and performance.
DESIGN : An intervention study design.
SETTING: This study was conducted in obstetrics and gynecology department at Benha University hospital.
Sample: Total sample.
SUBJECTS: Involved all nurses, (50) who were working in obstetric and gynecology department at the above mentioned setting regardless of their age, level of education and years of experience in three shifts (morning, afternoon and night).
Tools: The tools used for data collection were assessment questionnaire sheet, modified likert scale and an observation checklist to assess nurses' utilization of ethics.
RESULTS: The mean age of the studied nurses, was 37.47 ± 10.91 years. There were highly statistical significant improvement of nurses' knowledge, performance and attitude regarding nursing ethics at different assessment periods compared to pre program guidelines conduction. There were highly statistical significant relation between nurses' total knowledge, performance and attitude regarding nursing ethics in obstetrics and gynecology department and nurses' general characteristics. There was positive highly statistical significant correlation between total knowledge and attitude mean scores at different periods of assessment.
Recommendations: To distribute the utilized guidelines in this study at all maternity health care services affiliated to the Ministry of Health as well as MCH & delivery center. Further studies to investigate the health team compliance with the ethics guidelines in obstetrics and gynecology department.
