Abstract:

In bilharzial hepatic fibrosis(B.H.F) with or without ascities , the total cholesterol ,HDL,LDL,total phospholipids ,cholesterol /phospholipid ratio and triglycerides levels were found to be lower than normal. These explain the low incidence of atherosclerosis, hypertention and myocardial infarction in those patients .The fasting glucose level was found to be within the range of normal while the post prandial level showed significant elevation, more in ascitic cases. The fasting and post prandial insulin levels showed significant elevation, more in ascitic cases than in mon ascitic ones.
