Abstract:

Aflatoxins(AFs)arethemostdetrimentalmycotoxin, potentiallyhazardoustoanimalsand humans. AFs in food threaten the health of consumers and cause liver cancer. Therefore, a safe, efficient, andfriendlyapproachisattributedtothecontrolofaflatoxicosis. Therefore, thisstudyaimed toevaluatetheimpactsofChlorellavulgaris(CLV)onhepaticaflatoxicosis, aflatoxinresidues, andmeat quality in quails. Quails were allocated into a control group; the CLV group received CLV (1 g/kg diet);theAFgroupreceivedanAF-contaminateddiet(50ppb);andtheAF+CLVgroupreceivedboth treatments. TheresultsrevealedthatAFdecreasedthegrowthperformanceandcausedahepaticinjury, exhibited as an increase in liver enzymes and disrupted lipid metabolism. In addition, AF induced oxidativestress, exhibitedbyadramaticincreaseinthemalondialdehyde(MDA)levelanddecreases inglutathione(GSH)level, superoxidedismutase(SOD),andglutathioneperoxidase(GPx)activities. Significantup-regulationintheinflammatorycytokine(TNF-α,IL-1β,andIL-6)mRNAexpressionwas alsodocumented. Moreover, aflatoxinresiduesweredetectedintheliverandmeatwithanelevation offat%alongsideadecreaseinmeatprotein%. Ontheotherhand,CLVsupplementationameliorated AF-inducedoxidativestressandinflammatoryconditioninadditiontoimprovingthenutritionalvalue ofmeatandsignificantlyreducingAFresidues. CLVmitigatedAF-inducedhepaticdamage,decreased growthperformance, andloweredmeatqualityviaitsantioxidantandnutritionalconstituents.
