Abstract: |
Digital mapping technology is considered the most important source of information for many concerning organizations. There are several cartographic problems until now facing the cartographers during the execution of different processes. Some of these problems appear during the preparation of the digital data. That is because the format of digital data and GIS software is differing from each other. Example of other problem is the generation of cadastral maps with assistance of computer and modern technology. Generation of contour features and design of roads are also some of these problems. Solving these problems in the most practical, economic and simple way is the main objective of this paper. In order to achieve these tasks, certain software modules have been designed to support and facilitate each proposed solution. These modules were designed and developed by using the AutoLISP programming language facilities, working under the AutoCAD software. The first software module is designed to assist road design, by assigning sites for horizontal curves, plotting longitudinal section and computing the volume of cut and fill after selecting the ideal construction line. The second module is designed to draw contour lines from digital data and finding the elevation of a point lying between any two contour lines. The third module is designed to draw a complete cadastral map with symbols suitable for each type of features and to draw the legend (key) of the map. The AutoLisp programming language is considered a powerful tool for treating many cartographic operations. |
