Good morning Director, teachers, and fellow students,
I am M F, from Egypt, I am a PhD student in LIESMARS, Wuhan University.
I’d like to thank our school to give me this honorable opportunity to meet you and speak to you. On behalf of the senior Students, I'd like to welcome all of you to our school (LIESMARS). This is not only state key laboratory but also like a big family. Where you can find support, help, and knowledge. LIESMARS is one of the top-level schools in Remote sensing not only in China but also in whole the world. So, all of us should be proud to be part of LIESMARS.
I am sure we all want to achieve success and have a great time, so let me give you some advice.
We know that you are from different schools, universities, countries which abide by different rules. But I believe they all share common goals: to guarantee the safety of the people and apply order. So, all of us should follow the Chinese laws as well as school and university rules.
Another thing, it is not easy to spend your whole time studying only. So, try to enjoy beside your study. Fortunately, China is a very big country and the Chinese people are awesome and cooperative people. Try to travel to different places, even in Wuhan you can visit many beautiful places.
Also, participate in different student activities. such as Volunteering works, student unions like EGSC or even the English corner. You will gain new skills, new friends and enjoy your time.
Do your best in your research, do your best in life and welcome again in LIESMARS, wish you all the best. Xie xie

Anti-epidemic, we are in action | Series of reports (4): Anti-epidemic stories of international students coming to China 抗“疫”,我们在行动 | 系列报道(四):来华留学生的抗疫故事 [2020-07-02]
State Key Laboratory of Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing 2/26
Anti-epidemic, we are acting
Editor's note:
Since the outbreak of the New Coronary Pneumonia epidemic, every news, every set of data, and every story has touched the hearts of every Chinese. Since the "closure of the city" in Wuhan on January 23, all the teachers and students in the laboratory have carefully implemented the spirit of the Party Central Committee, implemented the deployment of the Wuhan City's prevention and control headquarters, implemented the school arrangements, and used their own methods and best efforts to fight the epidemic. "Contribute a force, and there are many people and things that are admirable and deeply inspired, and let us see the greatness of ordinary people. From now on, the laboratory has launched a series of reports on "Anti-epidemic", we are in action", recording the experimental party members' command team and all teachers and students' anti-epidemic, demonstrating the confidence of the laboratory staff to win-the same as the whole country The people, the people of Wuhan, and the masters and students of the martial arts, together, resolutely won the battle of prevention, control and blocking the epidemic.
Anti-epidemic stories of foreign students coming to China
The laboratory has 76 international students from 23 countries. On the day of the closure of Wuhan on January 23, there were 55 students studying in China, of which 48 were in Wuhan and 7 were in other cities in China. With the development of the epidemic, some countries have begun to organize the evacuation of overseas Chinese in Wuhan. A total of 13 students studying in Han in the laboratory followed the government to evacuate overseas Chinese to return to the country. Up to now, there are no suspected or confirmed cases of new crowns in international laboratory students, and their physical and mental conditions are in good condition. Let's take a look at how foreign students live and study during this special anti-epidemic period.
Let every international student have a matchmaker
Do a good job in epidemic prevention and life security
After the release of the "Fengcheng Order" in Wuhan, the International Student Training Office of the Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the "Liaopei Office") will report daily the body temperature of all international students to ensure that the temperature information of international students in Han is complete. Each of the 4 teachers of the International Education and Education Office docks 12 international students in Han, and cooperates with the work of the National Academy of Education to understand their life and learning difficulties at the first time, so as to ensure the basic life and study of international students in Han can be carried out smoothly.
Pakistani international student Aqib took a week-long Xiamen tour at the beginning of the winter vacation, just two days before the end of the journey back to Wuhan, that is, January 23 (the day when Wuhan issued the "closure order"), he was notified by the Xiamen hotel The reserved room has been cancelled. After contacting three other hotels and refusing to move in, he started a Xiamen wandering tour. At that time, the country suddenly entered a state of emergency in epidemic prevention, with different policies across the country, and many measures were not yet perfect. Aqib consulted the local police station and went to a hospital to try to issue a health certificate, but they failed to solve the accommodation problem. After understanding its predicament, the laboratory kept contacting the National Education Academy, Xiamen Mayor Hotline, and rescue station until 11 o'clock that night. The students moved to Xiamen Gaoqi Airport and spent the night here safely. Facing the closed city of Wuhan, his journey back to school was difficult. After comprehensively evaluating the epidemic prevention situation and the specific situation of the students at the time, the laboratory recommended that Aqib return directly to Pakistan and assist him in booking the earliest flight. Back home.
In the early days of the closure of the city, Tariq, who was in Nanjing, worried about his wife, who was alone in Huangpi (as a Muslim, in this special period, living in a foreign country and having more inconveniences in life), insisted on returning to Wuhan Huangpi, as one can imagine, this way Checkpoints are heavy and difficult. In order to help him reunite with his family as soon as possible, the Liubao Office, the Wuhan University National Education Academy, Wuhan Railway Station Volunteers and the Foreign Affairs Office of the province worked together to make every effort to help him successfully return to his home in Huangbei.
According to the requirements of online teaching, the laboratory organizes international students to install instant messaging software. In the meantime, some students encountered difficulties in registering new accounts, mainly including no English operation interface and failed identity verification. In response to these problems, the teacher of the Liubao Office uses a combination of telephone and SMS to remotely guide students to follow the step-by-step instructions on the page to complete the mobile phone binding authentication and successfully register the software account to ensure that each international student participates in online learning activities.
There are still many such cases. The teacher of the Libei Office acts as a remote translator, helping foreign students living outside the school to communicate with the property to solve problems such as thermometers, drinking water purchases, and gas storage. The international students said that with the care and help of the laboratory teachers, they felt extra warm and reassured and looked forward to the day when the epidemic was over and returned to the laboratory.
If we do not stop scientific research, we will become the winner
The continued development of the epidemic has delayed the start of school. Many classmates’ research materials are not available in the laboratory machine. In order to solve the problems of the students, the masters on duty in the laboratory took on a task that was a little technically difficult for them to start up, network, and open the remote control software for the students. After successfully opening multiple domestic students' software, the gradually skilled "business" masters began to operate the students' computers with the assistance of the teachers of the Lipei Office. More and more international students are connected to the work computer and enter the learning state. So far, the master on duty has successfully turned on more than 220 sets for domestic and international students in the laboratory.
Sajjad Asif stayed in school on the winter vacation. Like other students, he was taken good care of. This allows him to focus more on his scientific research. During his stay in school, he devoted himself to studying and completed a major and minor revision of a thesis. On February 20th, he sent us good news, and his thesis was accepted by the journal.
Neema, who is also in Han, originally planned to continue working in the laboratory during the winter vacation, but the sudden closure of the city made her unable to do so. She didn't have a computer by her side, and she tried to borrow a computer; she struggled with scientific research, so she cheered herself up. She said, do not try to make excuses for the current situation. On the contrary, we must fight now, and we will become the winners! Nothing is more important than your own work and study, we have to learn how to move on.
I want to be with Wuhan and fight the epidemic together
There are a total of 35 international students in the closed laboratory from the closure of the university to the present. They actively cooperate with the school and the State Education Institute, strictly abide by the requirements, and isolate them in the international student dormitory, overcoming many language, life and psychological difficulties, calmly and orderly After experiencing this "unforgettable special" time, Liubao also tried its best to help them solve problems such as supplies and medical care through various channels. While giving them care, we were also pleasantly harvested from them with full of positive energy. Warm encouragement, trust and support!
Both Algerian Dr. Mehdi and Egyptian Dr. Freeshah rejected government-organized evacuation and chose to stay in Wuhan. An Algerian student studying in China, represented by Mehdi, wrote in a letter to the Hubei Provincial Government: "We stand firm in our beloved Wuhan because it is our second hometown! We have absolute confidence in the Chinese government's ability to eliminate the epidemic Confidence."
(The video was posted on the Arabic channel of People's Network)
In an interview with China Radio International, Freeshah said: "My family and I chose to stay in Wuhan. On the one hand, I believe that the Chinese government's strong measures can make the epidemic come to an end as soon as possible. On the other hand, when my Chinese friends are experiencing difficulties, I think Stand with them and fight the epidemic together!"
(The video was posted on the Arabic channel of the official website of China Radio International)
The Pakistani student Uqba sent the official news screenshot of "Official News: China's "Old Rail" Pakistan Will Not Withdraw Overseas Chinese from Wuhan (Translation)" after contacting the teacher of the Liupei Office. The government's ability to respond to the epidemic has expressed great confidence, and it has also expressed its determination to work together with the Chinese people, the people of Wuhan, and master martial artists to overcome the difficulties. It is moving.
On January 31, we received a special petition. Arif from Pakistan petitioned through WeChat: "I am in the international student apartment on campus, everything is fine. If there is any need for help, I am ready to be a Volunteers are involved in the epidemic prevention work. We are honored to stand with China to fight the virus, because Wuhan is also our homeland, and China is like our motherland to us. China has helped us many times, no matter when and where Willing to do volunteer work.” Almost the same day, Hussein from Egypt also applied to participate in volunteer work. He has a professional background in architecture and hopes to participate in the construction of Mount Thor. In order to do well in the epidemic prevention work for international students, we declined their applications. I believe that after the epidemic, they will support Wuhan and China in a wider field.
Warm encouragement from evacuated students
The 13 evacuated international students in the laboratory were quarantined immediately after returning home. After the quarantine period ended safely, they actively promoted the efforts of the Chinese government in combating the new crown virus in various ways. After the expiry of the Egyptian students’ return home, they took out the printed paper and pieced it out: Dear Wuhan, come on!
Female doctor Bazine graduated from the laboratory in December 2019. This time when she returned to China, she will bid farewell to her second hometown, Wuhan, where she has lived for more than three years. She returned to work in Algeria. After the separation period ended, she finally reunited with her family. Her three children shouted in fluent Chinese: Wuhan Come on, everything will be fine!
