Experiments were conducted in sandy soil of Ismailia Agric. Res. Sta. during 2006/7 and 2007/8 to evaluate 6 flax genotypes (S.533/39/5/4, and S.22, as fiber types), (S.2465/3/1 and S.2419/1, as oil types) and (S.402/1 and Sakha1, as dual purpose types) under 4 N levels (40, 55, 70 and 85 kg/fed) and 2 P2O5 levels (15-30kg/fed).
The results indicated that:
1- S. 402/1 was the first in straw, total fibers and long fibers yields/fed, the second in fiber length, the third in fineness and the fourth in seed and oil yields/fed.
2- Sakha1 was the first in seed yield/fed, the second in total and long fiber yields/fed, the third in straw, and oil yields/fed, seed index and the fourth in fineness, oil% and fiber length.
3- S. 2419/1 was the second in straw, long fiber, and oil yields/fed, and oil%, and the third in total fiber and seed yields/fed and fiber length.
4- S. 2465/3/1 was the first in oil yield and the second in seed yield/fed and seed index.
5- Consequently, the 2 dual purpose genotypes as well as the oil strain S. 2419/1 could be considered as promising varieties.
6- The increase in N level from 40 to 85 kg N/fed significantly increased the economic characters (straw, fiber, seed and oil yields), and application of 85kg N/fed could be recommended.
7- Raising P2O5 level from 15 to 30kg/fed almost increased the economic characters.
8- The second order interaction indicated that on the average of both seasons, the highest values of straw yield was 3.15 t/fed, and of total fiber yield 0.61 t/fed, were recorded by (S.402/1). The highest seed yield was recorded by (Sakha1) being 340.78 kg/fed, whereas the highest oil yield was produced by (S.2465/3/1), being 140.05 kg/fed. In all cases these values were produced by applying the highest N and P levels.
