لقد أحدثت الثورة الرقمية نقلة هائلة في حياة الإنسان ، كما أحدثت تحولات عديدة على كافة الأصعدة والمستويات والتى نتج عنها طفرة فى صناعة الأثاث ، ولهذا ظهر "الأثاث التفاعلى" كنتاج للتطور الملحوظ فى مجال تكنولوجيا الحاسب الآلى والعلاقة الوطيدة بين الأفراد والأجهزة الإلكترونية والتى تتطور باستمرار، وضرورة مواكبة التطورات الحادثة عالميا في صناعة الأثاث واللحاق بهذا الركب التكنولوجى .
والأثاث التفاعلى هو قمة التقدم فى مجال الأثاث ، لأن قطع الأثاث التفاعلية يمكنها أن تتفهم احتياجات المستخدمين ومتطلباتهم من تلقاء نفسها وبالتالى القدرة على اتخاذ ردود أفعال تبعاً لهذا ، فهى بذلك تتيح الفرصة لتفاعل أكثر طبيعية بين الأثاث والمستخدمين ، كما أن الأثاث التفاعلى يستطيع تحقيق وظائف مختلفة وفقاً لحاجة مستخدميه وذلك باستخدام الأنظمة الذكية والتقنيات الحديثة . وقد تناول البحث تحليل لبعض الأمثلة التطبيقية للأثاث التفاعلى وكيفية عملها وأهمية ذلك فى صياغة فكر جديد في صناعة الأثاث وخلق التنوع التصميمي والتقني وعدم الإقتصار علي الأثاث النمطى .
