Under the patronage of Prof. Nasser El Gizawy, President of Benha University, and Major General Osama Abdel Hamid Dawood, Commander of the Civil Defense and Military Forces, Prof. Gihan Abdel Hady, Vice President of the University for Post - Graduate Studies and Research, welcomed Prof. Ahmed Serag, Director of Strategic Planning and Projects for the National Project for Plasma Derivatives, during the introductory seminar organized by the Military Education Department at the university.
The event was attended by Prof. Mohamed El Ashab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Rasha Shaker, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs, Major Hafez Ibrahim, Director of Military Education, and Prof. Khaled Eissawy, General Coordinator of Student Activities.
Prof. Gihan Abdel Hady emphasized that the National Project for Plasma Derivatives is one of the most significant national projects in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing aimed at providing medication for patients. She noted Benha University 's commitment to organizing such informative seminars to actively contribute to raising awareness about the importance of national projects being implemented on the ground.
Prof. Ahmed Serag, who spoke at the seminar, highlighted the need to increase awareness regarding this massive national project, which aligns with the vision and strategy of the Egyptian state and aims to achieve self-sufficiency in plasma-derived medications, in addition to localizing the production of these vital Profugs, under the slogan "Our Healing in Our Hands." The seminar adProfessed the necessity of plasma donation, as it is the raw material used in Profug manufacturing, which treats over 80 chronic and serious diseases.
Prof. Ahmed Serag mentioned that there are currently ten plasma donation centers in various governorates, with plans to establish a total of 20 centers across the republic in the coming months. He pointed out that the existing centers operate under the highest global quality and safety standards to ensure the health of donors and patients, from the donation process to the final pharmaceutical product. As a result, they received the International Quality Plasma Program (IQPP) certification from the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), making them the first of their kind outside North America and Europe. He added that as a further step towards international accreditation for plasma collection centers, there are plans for the donation centers to obtain approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
He also discussed the factory currently being constructed over an area of 105,000 square meters in the medical city of the New Administrative Capital, which will be the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East, dedicated to the fractionation and purification of plasma and converting it into plasma-derived medications in their final form.
