The Benha University Council held its meeting chaired by Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, with the presence of Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University, Prof. El Sayed Fouda, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Jihan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and esteemed council members.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy began the session by congratulating the political leadership and university staff on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the October War victories, affirming that the victories of October will remain a significant national memory and a symbol of pride for Egyptians.
He emphasized the importance of developing national awareness among students and enhancing their sense of belonging and pride in their Egyptian identity to counter incorrect thoughts and beliefs, encouraging them to contribute to building society and sustainable development.
El-Gizawy also congratulated the university community, including faculty, administrators, and students, on the university's progress in the scientific impact index in the Dutch "Leiden Open" ranking, where it ranked 1033 out of 1506 universities worldwide, advancing 105 positions from the previous edition. Additionally, it appeared in the QS ranking of Arab universities for 2025, ranking 114 among 246 universities from 20 Arab countries, and 17th among public, national, and private universities in Egypt, out of 36 universities listed in the ranking.
In the British Times Higher Education ranking for higher education institutions for 2025, Benha University ranked between 1001-1200 globally among more than 2000 universities from 115 countries, and locally it ranked in the fourth category along with 14 other universities among 47 Egyptian universities evaluated in this edition. He affirmed that these achievements play a significant role in gaining the trust of the community and stakeholders, improving the university's institutional and academic reputation, and enhancing its standing with employers.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy reviewed the university's participation in the President's initiative for human development, "A New Beginning for Building the Human," confirming that many community and developmental convoys and various activities and events were launched in coordination with all executive agencies in Qalyubia Governorate to achieve the initiative's objectives, resulting in positive outcomes for citizens in all fields.
He also discussed the procedures for establishing a company named "Bidaya" to market the university's various services, including patents, utility models, and innovations, as well as marketing research outputs and providing consulting, design, and management services in the field of technological incubators and startups. He emphasized the university's aim to be a pioneering model for Egyptian universities in education, scientific research, and community life.
He stated that Benha University aims to invest in knowledge and transform into a self-financing university by developing scientific journals, converting some of these journals into global publishing houses, and offering modern specialized academic programs that meet labor market requirements. Additionally, the university seeks to optimize the use of its various unused assets.
El-Gizawy highlighted the university's commitment to establishing several local and international partnerships and agreements with prestigious universities as part of the university's vision and strategy to open up to the world and support the capacity building of students, researchers, and faculty members, enhancing the quality of academic and research outputs. He noted that 15 cooperation agreements had been signed to train students and graduates on the skills required in the labor market.
During the session, he directed enhancing the role of college workshops to meet the university's needs for various equipment to provide the best educational service to students. He also instructed the General Administration of University Cities to study the supervision and management of college cafeterias that had their public bidding canceled, allowing students who wish to work there to do so for compensation.
On another note, the university president reviewed the progress of 23 educational programs distributed across 7 colleges seeking program accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, affirming that the university has made significant strides in the field of program accreditation for many of its colleges and educational programs, contributing to the improvement of its institutional and academic reputation.
