Benha University, under the patronage of Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, the university president, participated in the World Urban Forum'
s twelfth session, held under the theme "Everything Starts Locally - Let'
s Work Together for Sustainable Cities and Communities."
The event saw the participation of around 30,000 people from 180 countries at the Al-Manara Conference Center, hosted by Egypt as the first African country to host this important global event under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy announced that students from the Architecture Department of the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra won third place after the first place was withheld in the "Minds" competition.
They presented a series of projects related to the forum'
s goals, under the supervision of Prof. Shaaban Taha, former Vice President of the university and a retired architecture professor, and Prof. Sadiq Saad, an architecture professor at the college.
He emphasized that Benha University was keen to participate in the forum to showcase local initiatives addressing global issues such as the housing crisis and climate change, as well as to present the achievements of the Egyptian state in urban development over the past 10 years.
It is noteworthy that the World Urban Forum aims to provide insights into urban expansions and their relationships with their surroundings to achieve sustainable development goals, involving representatives from national, regional, and local governments, academics, business leaders, urban planners, and civil society to discuss the pressing urban challenges facing our world today.
The winning team from the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra included Basma Mohammed, Fouad Ahmed, Nourhan Maher, Hagar Mohammed, and Basma Osama.
