Under the patronage of Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hady, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, inaugurated the first annual conference of the Faculty of Arts, titled "Visions for Development in the Humanities and Challenges of the Digital Age."
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Amgad Hegazy, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Conference President, Prof. Hisham Farouk, former Assistant Minister of Higher Education for Digital Transformation, writer and author Awan Zahir, and Prof. Mohamed Mosbah, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Education and Student Affairs and Conference Rapporteur.
During her speech, Prof. Gehan Abdel-Hady emphasized that digital transformation is not limited to the technical aspect only but extends to changes in the way we think, communicate, and learn. This gives a vital role to the humanities in understanding and analyzing these changes and innovating creative solutions to face their challenges.
She affirmed that the Faculty of Arts at Benha University strives to keep pace with these transformations through the scientific research and initiatives it offers to support and develop the community.
The Vice President of the University pointed out that the university supports all its faculties and encourages them to hold conferences and seminars that contribute to enriching academic discussion and enhancing scientific research.
Additionally, it provides researchers with the opportunity to exchange experiences and find solutions to contemporary challenges, adding that the conference will be a fruitful platform for innovation and development and a source of inspiration for ideas that contribute to enhancing the role of the humanities in facing challenges and achieving sustainable development.
Prof. Amgad Hegazy stated that our conference will shed light on various aspects and fields that can utilize technology and benefit from it in rebuilding the human being, the cornerstone of all progress and advancement.
He explained that technology has accelerated the obsolescence of the humanities and social sciences, as the intellectual content's obsolescence and its impact over time have sped up in these fields.
Prof. Mohamed Mosbah added that the conference will discuss several key themes, including the character of Egypt in the digital age, the future of languages in the digital era, media technology and digital preservation and accessibility, and social media and the humanities.
