Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, emphasized the university's commitment to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and raising awareness about the importance of sustainability and the efficient use of available resources across all fields.
This came during the launch of the activities of the Benha University Ambassadors for Sustainable Development and Climate initiative (first batch) for the university's supporting staff, in the presence of:
•Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research,
• Prof. Mohamed Basyouni, Director of the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Unit at the university,
• Mrs. Rania Moataz, Assistant Secretary General for Community Service and Environmental Development, and members of the first batch of the initiative.
Prof. El-Gizawy pointed out that the university has adopted several policies and measures to reduce carbon emissions by gradually relying on new and renewable energy in some facilities, as well as increasing green spaces within the university.
This has positively impacted the university's standing in global rankings that assess universities' commitment to sustainable development indicators and the achievement of their goals.
He added that the Benha University Ambassadors for Sustainable Development and Climate initiative aims to build the capacities of faculty members and supporting staff in the field of sustainable development, enabling them to become ambassadors for the university in this area.
The initiative also seeks to promote a culture of sustainable development within the university and the surrounding community through a series of training courses and practical interactive field practices, including patterns of development, the Sustainable Development Goals, Egypt's Vision 2030, and familiarizing participants with the National Climate Change Strategy 2050.
