Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the university has maintained its regional ranking among the top five universities in Egypt and Africa according to the Indonesian Green Metric UI Green Metric ranking for environmentally friendly universities in 2024.
The university ranked fourth locally and in Africa, and it is classified among the top 500 universities globally, securing the 351st position out of 1,477 universities from 95 countries, with an increase of 294 universities and 10 countries participating in this year'
s ranking.
El-Gizawy noted that the Green Metric ranking is one of the most important international rankings that measures universities'
commitment to developing environmentally friendly infrastructure.
This ranking orders universities based on their sustainable development practices and commitment to clean environmental standards.
Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hady, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, added that Benha University ranked first locally in the energy and climate change criteria.
She explained that the ranking includes six main criteria related to sustainable development: infrastructure and smart buildings, energy and climate change, waste recycling, water, transportation, and educational and research preparations.
It is noteworthy that 36 Egyptian universities, both public and private, appeared in this edition of the Green University ranking, an increase of 10 Egyptian universities.
