Under the auspices of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, and Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President of the University for postgraduate Studies and Research, Benha University announced the organization of the "Smart Education" Hackathon under the slogan “Artificial Intelligence Applications: The Future of Egypt's Digital Landscape” in February 2025.
A total of 214 teams from 57 Egyptian universities (public, private, national, and technological) have registered for the competition in the seven different tracks of the Hackathon.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy stated that the Hackathon is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the Innovators and Talents Fund (ISF) and the Information Technology Institute (ITI), which is affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
He added that the Hackathon aims to support digital transformation and achieve Egypt's 2023 vision by promoting innovation and encouraging creative youth in Egyptian universities and institutes to present innovative solutions in fields such as:
• Distance Education
• Interactivity in Education
• Flexible Learning Tools
• Language Learning Platforms
• Gamification of Learning
• Learner Support Systems
• Data Analysis for Education
The Innovators and Talents Fund announced that the financial prizes for the Hackathon have been doubled, reaching a total of 280,000 EGP distributed across 7 tracks. The first-place winner will receive a prize of 20,000 EGP, the second-place winner will receive 12,000 EGP, and the third-place winner will receive 8,000 EGP.
Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi indicated that informational sessions and other details will be announced through the official page of the Innovators and Talents Fund, the Hackathon website, Benha University website, and the university's official Facebook page.
Prof. Shady El-Mashad, Executive Director of Information and General Coordinator of the Hackathon, announced the start of the preliminary evaluation phase by judging committees, which include specialized faculty members as well as industry experts.
The final lists of teams qualified for the final stage will be announced on February 1, 2025.
