Benha University won EU Funding for Research Project under Erasmus plus Program as Part of a Consortium of 10 Universities

Prof. Nasser El Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced that the university has won funding for a research project focused on updating curricula related to land management, urban spaces, and teaching methods in Southern Mediterranean countries from the European Union under the Erasmus Plus program. This initiative involves a consortium of 10 universities and institutes representing five countries worldwide: Croatia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Jordan, Morocco, and Egypt. The Egyptian side of this project includes Benha University, Alexandria University, and the National Center for Planning Land Uses.
The project will be implemented over three years, with a budget of approximately €800,000 distributed among the partner universities to build the capacities of specialists through curriculum updates and the adoption of new concepts, models, and techniques within the partner universities.
Prof. Jehan Abdel Hady, Vice President of the University for postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that this project was prepared with the participation of both academic and non-academic institutions, which are crucial for the project's outcomes, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and skills. New curricula will be created, employing advanced teaching strategies such as problem-based learning, experiential learning, and knowledge exchange for university students and stakeholders associated with such advanced technologies.
Prof. Gamal Abdel Aziz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Shubra, pointed out that the project's activities include studying and analyzing the needs of Southern Mediterranean countries in spatial sciences, preparing studies, and implementing training courses to enhance the efficiency of professionals in the field and optimize the use of modern technologies.
Prof. Amr Hanafi, the project coordinator at Benha University, added that the project aims to strengthen the capacities of Southern Mediterranean universities and update teaching methods in urban management and land management using modern spatial technologies and applications. It will address existing challenges in land and urban planning in the context of climate change and population growth, based on modern technologies and concepts such as digitization, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and other new technologies, as well as introducing new concepts like smart cities. Additionally, it will activate quality and sustainability concepts at every step and stage of project implementation.
