The "Smart Education Hackathon" will kick off tomorrow, Sunday, at Benha University, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the Innovation and Excellence Fund (ISF) and the Information Technology Institute (ITI) affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, stated that 35 teams qualified to participate, representing 25 governmental, National, and technological universities:
• Benha University and
• New Mansoura University will each participate with three teams, while several universities, including
• Menoufia University,
• Matrouh University,
• The Egyptian-Chinese University,
• Damietta University,
• October University for Science and Technology, and
• Zagazig University, will participate with two teams each. Additionally, one team from each of the following universities will participate:
• Cairo University,
• Delta University for Science and Technology,
• Delta Technology University,
• Misr University for Science and Technology,
• British University,
• Mansoura University,
• Benha National University,
• Port Said University,
• New Cairo Technology University,
• Zewail City of Science and Technology,
• Sinai University,
• Galala University,
• Helwan University,
• Assiut University,
• Kafr El-Sheikh University,
• The Egyptian Academy for Engineering and Technology, and
• Al-Obour Institutes.
Prof. El-Gizawy added that the Hackathon tracks are designed to contribute to the development of a range of innovative ideas and modern programming projects, utilizing information and communication technology to enhance the educational process and improve learning effectiveness. He noted that all Hackathon tracks aim to find innovative solutions in various fields, including remote education, interactive learning, flexible educational tools, language learning platforms, gamification of learning, learner support systems, and data analysis for education.
Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President of the University for postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that the application for participation in the competition opened on November 2 of last year and remained available until January 15 of this year. Benha University announced the participation of 214 teams representing 57 governmental, private, and technological universities. After the preliminary selections, 35 teams succeeded in representing 25 universities in the final phase of the hackathon, where they are expected to present their ideas and projects across 7 tracks.
Prof. Shadi El-Mashad, Executive Director of Information and General Coordinator of the Hackathon, stated that the university is keen to hold the "Smart Education Hackathon" based on the belief in the role of higher education and scientific research in supporting digital transformation, alongside the continuous effort to achieve the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030, aimed at transforming into a knowledge-based digital economy. This includes encouraging innovation, research, and development by empowering young programmers and idea creators to present their smart ideas and programming projects. He confirmed that all necessary resources will be provided to ensure the success of the Hackathon and assist students from different teams in implementing their ideas and projects. Benha University will also award cash prizes to the top three teams in each of the 7 tracks, totaling 280,000 EGP from Benha University and the Innovation and Excellence Fund.
• The first-place winner will receive 20,000 EGP,
• The second-place winner 12,000 EGP, and
• The third-place winner 8,000 EGP.
