New Addition to the Higher Education System The Council of National Universities has approved the establishment of 12 new national universities.

• The new national universities will comprise 98 diverse colleges.
Prof. Ayman Ashour emphasized on:
• The necessity of providing an advanced educational experience in the new national universities.
• The academic programs in the national universities should align with labor market requirements and promote sustainable development.
• A new administrative structure that enhances innovation and international partnerships in the national universities.
Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, chaired the meeting of the Council of National Universities on Sunday, attended by Prof. Maher Msbah, the council's secretary, council members, and various ministry leaders at the private education building in New Cairo.
At the beginning of the meeting, the council praised the significant support provided by the political leadership for the establishment of national universities and equipping them with the latest technological devices and information infrastructure to meet international standards.
Prof. Ayman Ashour confirmed the commitment to offering modern academic programs in the national universities that align with labor market needs, noting that these universities represent ambitious projects reflecting the state's vision to improve the quality of educational services and enhance scientific research.
The minister explained that the relationship between governmental and national universities is based on cooperation and integration, directing the need to provide an advanced educational experience that includes modern interdisciplinary academic programs that keep pace with the latest international educational systems, alongside a new administrative structure that includes deputies for the university president for academic affairs, international relations and partnerships, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The minister expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the committee examining the universitie's files to ensure the quality of the constructions and preparations completed, ensuring a distinguished educational experience for students.
He pointed out the new approach adopted in establishing the new national universities, utilizing available resources to ensure sustainability, and demonstrating the state's ability to implement successful national projects.
Prof. Maher Msbah presented a detailed overview of the current status of national universities and the steps taken within the framework of the expansions they have witnessed, noting the increased interest of students in enrolling in national universities due to the trust of students and parents in the distinguished services provided by these universities, in addition to the availability of an exceptional educational environment that encourages creativity and excellence.
Prof. Maher Msbah also mentioned that the national universities offer modern interdisciplinary academic programs that meet the current and future labor market requirements, equipped with the latest educational systems and advanced infrastructure, as well as labs equipped with the latest devices. He emphasized that national universities are non-profit, as revenues are reinvested in developing the infrastructure and information systems, contributing to improving the quality of education and preparing students according to labor market requirements.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the council approved the establishment of 12 new national universities, including:
• Cairo National University,
• Kafr El-Sheikh National University,
• Sohag National University,
• Damanhour National University,
• Suez National University,
• Damietta National University,
• Ain Shams National University,
• New Valley National University,
• Fayoum National University,
• Tanta National University,
• Luxor National University
• Sadat City National University.
The spokesperson added that these universities will include 98 colleges and various academic programs across different disciplines as follows:
• Cairo National University: 14 colleges (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Science, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Economics and Political Science, Media, Early Childhood Education, Law).
• Kafr El-Sheikh National University: 12 colleges (Human Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Science, Agriculture, Humanities and Languages, Commerce and Business Administration).
• Sohag National University: 8 colleges (Human Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer Science and Information, Health Technology, Media, Science, Humanities and Languages).
• Damanhour National University: 8 colleges (Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Computer Science and Information, Science, Business Administration, Humanities and Arts, Applied Arts).
• Suez National University: 9 colleges (Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Engineering, Computer Science and Information, Science, Humanities and Languages, Economics and Political Science, Media, Applied Arts).
• Damietta National University: 5 colleges (Nursing, Arts and Design, Computer Science and Information, Archaeology and Tourism, Business Administration). • Ain Shams National University: 11 colleges (Engineering, Computer Science and Information, Commerce, Science, Agriculture, Arts, Media, Human Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, International Law).
• New Valley National University: 5 colleges (Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Science, Humanities and Languages).
• Luxor National University: 4 colleges (Tourism and Archaeology, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Humanities and Languages, Applied Arts).
• Fayoum National University: 7 colleges (Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Nursing, Science, Humanities and Languages).
• Tanta National University: 9 colleges (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Science, Administrative Sciences, Languages).
• Sadat City National University: 6 colleges (Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Commerce, Science, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Tourism and Hotels).
The spokesperson clarified that necessary procedures are being taken to present to the Cabinet, preparing for legal actions to issue presidential decisions regarding the establishment of the new national universities.
He added that the new national universities have completed their financial and human resources to be ready to commence classes starting from the 2025/2026 academic year.
It is noteworthy that the number of national universities has increased to 32 universities after the approval of the establishment of 12 new universities, bringing the total number of universities in Egypt to 128 universities.
