It is noteworthy that the SCImago Ranking classifies academic and research institutions through a composite index that combines research performance, innovation outputs, and community impact measured by their online presence. The research ranking reflects the volume, impact, and quality of the institution's research outputs.
The innovation ranking is based on the number of patent applications from the institution and citations received by its research outputs from patents. Finally, the community ranking depends on the number of pages on the institution's website and the number of links and mentions from social media networks.
The SCImago Ranking uses objective criteria and relies on Scopus databases from the global publisher Elsevier. The relative weight of the main indicators is as follows: research performance represents 50%, innovation represents 30%, and community impact represents 20% of the relative weight for the ranking. It is required that the institution publishes at least 100 research papers classified in Scopus databases in the evaluation year.
