Under the patronage of Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, and in the presence of Prof.Dr. Mahmoud El-Zaablaway, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor, the Unit against Violence against Women at the faculty organized an awareness seminar titled "Safe Digital Citizenship: A Shared Responsibility Between Genders."
The seminar aimed to acquaint students with the reality of the digital age, not merely as users, but as creators of awareness and responsibility. The event was attended by Prof.Dr. Ehab Mohamed Farid, the Faculty Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Nevin Abdel Sabour, Director of the University's Unit against Violence against Women. The seminar was presented by Dr. Rabab Said, the Unit Coordinator at the Faculty of Agriculture.
Dr. Nevin Abdel Sabour indicated that the seminar was coordinated with Ms. Rania Moataz, the Assistant University Secretary for Community Service and Environmental Development. The seminar provided a comprehensive vision of how every individual - whether a man or a woman - can fulfill their role as a "digital citizen" in a safe and responsible digital world.
By discussing the concept of digital citizenship, along with user rights and responsibilities, attendees realized that awareness is the first line of defense. The seminar addressed the exposure of various forms of cyber violence and their effects, methods of protection and prevention, and the importance of both genders being active partners in building a safe digital environment.
During the seminar, Dr. Nevin emphasized that digital citizenship has become an integral part of our daily lives; it is no longer an option but a reality we live in education, work, and relationships. Despite the opportunities it offers for empowerment and communication, it also poses serious challenges, especially for women.
She pointed out that electronic violence is more severe than traditional violence because it transcends borders, spreads rapidly, constantly evolves and persists, and is easy to perpetrate, all of which deepens its psychological and social impact.
The seminar witnessed exceptional interaction from the students, who shared real-life experiences of digital violence they had encountered or witnessed. They discussed its causes, effects, and how to deal with it. The students moved beyond this to a deeper level of awareness by offering advice to protect others, reflecting their sense of responsibility and their ability to disseminate a culture of digital safety within the university community.
