For the Second Consecutive Year: Benha University Tops Locally in Energy Standards and Ranks Among Africa's Top Three in 2025 Green University Rankings

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced the university's regional advancement, securing a position among the top five universities in Egypt and Africa according to the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for sustainable and eco-friendly institutions. Benha University ranked 3rd nationally and continentally and entered the global top 500, placing 263rd out of 1,745 universities across 95 countries—a significant increase of 268 universities and 10 additional countries compared to previous editions.
Prof. El-Gizawy emphasized that the GreenMetric Ranking is a critical international benchmark measuring universities' commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure and sustainable development. The ranking evaluates institutions based on their adherence to clean environmental standards and contributions to sustainable growth.
Prof. Gehan Abdel-Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, highlighted Benha University's continued dominance in key categories:
• 1st nationally in Energy and Climate Change standards
• 1st nationally in Water Management
• Strong performance across all six GreenMetric criteria:
i. Infrastructure and Smart Buildings
ii. Energy and Climate Change
iii. Waste Recycling
iv. Water Conservation
v. Sustainable Transportation
vi. Educational and Research Preparedness
A total of 38 Egyptian universities (public and private) were featured in the 2025 rankings, reflecting a two-university increase from previous years.
