Benha University Nominates Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin for the Nile Prize for Egyptian Innovators in Social Sciences

Prof.Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, announced the University Council's approval of nominating Prof.Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed Safwat Mohieldin, Professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Benha National University, for the Nile Prize for Egyptian Innovators in Social Sciences for 2026.
El-Gizawy indicated that the nomination of Prof.Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin was due to his diverse and numerous contributions in various fields, most notably economics and finance. He is considered one of the most prominent academics in these two fields. His name has been associated with scientific and research work and university teaching since 1986 at Cairo University and several prestigious universities around the world. His academic contributions have had a profound impact on developing economic knowledge and shaping generations of researchers and scholars.
It is noteworthy that Prof.Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin is a native of Kafr Shukr city in Qalyubia Governorate. He held the position of Egypt's first Minister of Investment upon the ministry's establishment in 2004, tasked with a broad reform mandate aimed at developing the investment climate, restructuring the financial services sector, and implementing a comprehensive program for managing public business sector assets.
During his tenure as minister, noticeable progress was achieved in institutional and regulatory reform paths, contributing to enhancing confidence in the Egyptian economy and increasing Egyptian and foreign investments unprecedentedly, along with improving the efficiency of financial activities and developing the investment environment in Egypt.
From 2010 to 2024, he held high-level leadership positions in international financing organizations. These included serving as an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund representing the Arab Group and Maldives. At the World Bank Group, he held the positions of First Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda, United Nations Relations and Partnerships; and Managing Director supervising the Human Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty Reduction, Economic Management & Finance, Private Sector, and the World Bank Institute sectors. He also served as the World Bank President's Special Envoy for the Millennium Development Goals, Sustainable Development Goals, and Development Finance, and as the Executive Secretary of the Development Committee of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
